Computer numerically controlled (CNC) bending is a manufacturing process carried out by CNC press brakes (also known as CNC brake presses). These machines can turn sheet metal work from just a few mm across to sections many meters long on the most powerful industrial machines. CNC press brakes either have a fixed bottom bed with the V block tooling clamped in place or a top beam that travels under force with the V blade tools; this is known as down forming.

An advantage of fiber lasers over other lasers is that the laser light is generated and delivered by an inherently flexible medium, which allows easier delivery to the focusing location and target. It can be important for laser cutting, welding, and folding metals and polymers. Another advantage is high output power compared to other types of laser. Fiber lasers can have active regions several kilometers long, providing very high optical gain. They can support kilowatt levels of continuous output power because of the fiber’s high surface area to volume ratio, allowing efficient cooling.
