Continuous Hanging Shot Blasting Machine
This is a machine we designed, built and commissioned . The customer fabricates large welded steel structures and needed every one cleaned to a paint-ready finish before coating, including the recessed faces that a flat-line machine simply can’t reach. As a shot blasting machine manufacturer with around 30 years of core-team engineering experience, ATHI built a continuous hanging line sized to their exact parts and throughput. Here is what they needed, and what we delivered.
Exigence du client
The plant’s welded parts arrive at the line covered in mill scale, weld oxidation and rust. All of it has to be removed cleanly and evenly before painting, with no area left untreated. Their brief came down to three priorities:
- A near-white Sa2.5 finish, ready for primer
- Full coverage on bulky, awkward parts, with aucun angle mort
- A continuous, hook-fed process that keeps pace with production
A hanging (overhead-rail) layout was the natural fit. Parts stay on the hooks and rotate as they travel through the blast zone, so nothing needs re-fixturing and every face is treated in a single pass.
ATHI Solution
Nous avons construit un continuous hanging shot blasting machine: a pass-through system where parts hang from self-rotating hooks and move through a fully enclosed blast chamber. Because the hooks turn, abrasive reaches every side of the part. That is the core advantage of a hanging machine over tumble or table units on large welded work — and the reason it suited this job.

How it’s engineered
- Eight blast wheels, angled to the direction of travel and positioned using 3D throw simulation, so coverage is complete while wasted abrasive and liner wear stay low.
- 10 mm rolled Mn13 chamber liners, mounted in modular panels that swap out quickly to cut downtime.
- A three-stage shot–dust separator reaching up to 99.5% efficiency, so only clean, correctly sized shot returns to the wheels — protecting finish quality and abrasive cost.
- Pulse bag dust collection that holds emissions to a level meeting standard environmental acceptance.
- Contrôle PLC with automatic and manual modes, door safety interlocks, and fault alarms that point maintenance straight to the cause.
Wear parts use standard dimensions and are interchangeable with our other machines, so spares are easy to source. There is no proprietary lock-in — a point that matters over the working life of the equipment.

Installation et mise en service
ATHI handled the full process on site: installation, start-up, commissioning and operator training, all completed on schedule and to the customer’s safety procedures. Every machine ships with a one-year warranty and parts support, backed by a service team that responds quickly and sends an engineer on site when needed.
Built Around Your Parts
We also build fully custom machines designed around your specific parts and factory layout. A hanging line can be extended with additional stages — preheating, painting or coating, feeding and conveying — to form a complete automated finishing line.
If your parts are large, welded or hard to fixture, a grenailleuse suspendue is usually the most efficient route to a clean, paint-ready surface. Send us your part size, throughput and target finish, and we’ll size one for you.

A note on client privacy
This case study describes a genuine project designed, built and commissioned by ATHI.
